For anyone new to the Carme Home blog, our Furniture Inspired by Fashion feature is a fan favourite, combining celebrity red carpet looks and accessible home interiors. This blog in particular is the Met Gala 2021 edition. The Met Gala is an annual fundraising ball for the societal elite. Hollywood stars, fashion designers, politicians, models, anyone who is anyone is in attendance. Unfortunately for us normal folk the event is strictly invitation only, so the best we can do is admire from afar (hence the blog!). If you want to know how you can achieve Kate Hudson’s award show glam with one of our dressing tables, read on and we promise all will make sense shortly.
Pack a Punch Politicians!
American Congresswomen for the Democratic Party, Carolyn Maloney and Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez, stuck to their guns and took an activist stance, both wearing dresses exhibiting bold political statements. Carolyn’s gown featured banner-like ribbons draped over her shoulders with “Equal Rights for Women” embellished on each one. The colours paid tribute to the Suffragette Flag, and their fight that first won American women the right to vote. Alexandra’s dress was designed by Aurora James, founder of fashion label Brother Veillies. At first glance it is relatively inconspicuous, white bridal and virginal, however across the back in blood red are the words “Tax the Rich”.
These public, passionate and controversial statements remind us at Carme Home of coffee table books. Coffee table books aren’t necessarily bought to be read, but bought with the primary purpose of displaying, and it is for this reason that the coffee table books a person chooses says a lot about the type of person they are. Shop coffee table book “Icons: 50 Heroines Who Shaped Contemporary Culture” to make a statement like Carolyn and Alexandra and to add a pop of colour to your lounge with the pink and orange cover, available at independent bookseller Blackwell’s here.
Supermodels Anok Yai and Imaan Hammam both wowed in jaw-dropping skin-tight dresses. Anok wore a black Oscar de la Renta dress adorned with star embellishment and Giuseppe Zanotti heels. Imaan wore a vintage Atelier Versace dress which was completely sheer aside from the feature of strategically placed silver stars and sparkling Tiffany & Co jewellery. The models definitely opted for stars over stripes with the Met Gala 2021 theme “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion”. If you would prefer to have stars inside your home rather than on your clothing, then you need a night sky projector lamp. No, they are not just for children, they set a gorgeously immersive ambience for your movie nights, or modernise your relaxing bath and choose stars instead of candles! Shop Urban Outfitters here for a night sky projector lamp of your own.
Oscar Worthy Actresses!
Hours after announcing her engagement on Instagram, actress Kate Hudson arrived wearing a candy pink Michael Kors two piece with Lorraine Schwartz jewellery (although we were most interested in one ring in particular!). Fellow actress Storm Reid attended her first ever Met Gala rocking a unique but stylish Prada ensemble. Both actresses deserve a congratulations; I mean one engaged and the other invited to attend her first ever Met Gala is a big deal!
Kate and Storm’s looks both feature pink feathers, which of course relates to our very own Carme Home dressing table; the Pastel Paradise available in Flamingo Pink (flamingos and pink feathers, get it?). The dressing table features luxurious pink soft-touch velvet, a sleek white marble-effect tabletop and champagne gold detailing. The boutique chair features a bow-shaped design, and the mirror has colour changing LED light. Shop at Carme Home here!
