Lighting Basics
Lighting plays a crucial role in how makeup looks in different environments. Understanding the quality, direction, and intensity of light is essential for achieving desired makeup results. Natural lights and artificial light sources have different characteristics that affect how we see colour. Wherever you do your makeup, good natural light isn’t always available, that’s where Carme Home come in!
Colour temperature is how we see the ‘warmth’ or ‘cool’ tones of light. This is measured in Kelvin (K). A lower colour temperature appears warm, and has a yellow-ish hue, resembling candle lights or incandescent bulbs. A higher colour temperature is a cool tone, giving a blue-white tone similar to day-light or fluorescent lighting. Daylight colour temperature lights closely resemble the lighting conditions found in natural daylight.
Lumens measure how much visible light you are getting from a bulb, more lumens mean its brighter and fewer lumens mean it is dimmer.
Hollywood Vs LED
How Do LED and Hollywood Bulbs Differ?
Lets get technical
Hollywood bulbs traditionally are incandescent bulbs that rely on a heated filament to produce light when an electric current passes through it. While, LED bulbs use light-emitting diodes, which are solid-state semiconductors that emit light when electric current flows through them.
Did you know? Our Hollywood bulb pieces are LED, giving the perfect combination of the glamorous look with the added benefits of LED. Meaning you simply need to choose which aesthetic you prefer!
Appearance
Hollywood bulbs are known for their iconic appearance with a globe shape. They evoke a classic and nostalgic Hollywood aesthetic that is often associated with vanity and glamour. Their shape is larger than a standard light bulb and this gives them a distinctive, stand-out aesthetic.
LED lights come in various shapes and sizes, including traditional bulb shapes, but they typically have a more modern and streamlined integrated look. The technology of LED allows for a compact size and design flexibility. Allowing us to create those sleek products that you love!

How Long Do the Bulbs Last and Are They Replaceable?
Our bulbs aren’t replaceable. All our bulbs have an exceptionally long-life span, with most of our products offering 30,000 hours. To put this into perspective, if the light was to be left on for 24 hours a day the bulbs would last just over three years. With an average use of an hour a day that is an impressive 82 years!
Non-replaceable bulbs come with an integrated design, resulting in better performance and efficiency. The technology from these bulbs allows us to give you the best products, a sleek design packed with features! Designs you love!

Different light can affect the appearance of skin and we understand the importance of good lighting and colour matching your makeup! Read below for all you need to know about which colour light setting we recommend using on our mirrors.
Cool Light
Cool colour temperature lights provide a clear, bright, and refreshing illumination, which helps you see your skin tone, makeup colours, and textures more accurately. This is important for achieving consistent and desirable makeup results.
Cool light can enhance the visibility of blemishes, discolorations, and imperfections on the skin. We recommend using the cool light setting when you need to clearly see, for beauty prep such as when plucking or tinting your eyebrows.
Warm Light
Warm light creates a cosy and inviting atmosphere and is often used in spaces where relaxation and comfort are important. Warm colour temperature lights can enhance the natural warmth and glow of your skin, making it look healthier and more vibrant. They can also create a more flattering and soft lighting environment, which is ideal for getting that perfect selfie!
Warm light can help to reduce the visibility of imperfections and blemishes on the skin, creating a smoother and more even complexion. This can make it easier to achieve a desired look. We recommend using the warm light setting for hair styling as the softer light gives less illumination.
Day Light
Daylight colour bulbs mimic natural daylight. They have a white tone and provide a bright, crisp, and vibrant illumination. Daylight colour temperature lights closely resemble the lighting conditions found in natural daylight. Using this light setting at your dressing table can help ensure that your makeup looks consistent and natural when in a variety of environments, such as outdoors or under fluorescent lighting.
Daylight bulbs have excellent colour accuracy, allowing you to see your skin tone, makeup shades, and textures more accurately. We recommend using this setting when applying your makeup, the bright illumination is essential for precise colour matching and blending, such as applying foundation or eyeshadow.
Daylight colour temperature lights provide a balanced and even lighting environment, which can help reduce the appearance of shadows on your face making it easier to achieve that desired look!
It’s important to note that lighting conditions can vary depending on factors like room paint colour, window placement, and natural light sources. We recommend that you test and experiment with different lighting setups to find the most flattering and suitable light for your dressing table and for applying your makeup.
